Dell Technologies has introduced a new high-end artificial intelligence server built around Nvidia's latest Vera Rubin graphics processing unit architecture. The Dell PowerEdge XE8812 is designed to serve as the computational backbone for enterprises deploying large-scale AI workloads, from training massive models to real-time inference. With the ability to scale up to 144 GPUs per rack and featuring liquid cooling, the server represents a significant leap in compute density and memory capacity for AI data centers.

The PowerEdge XE8812 is the centerpiece of Dell's expanded AI Factory with Nvidia, a preconfigured infrastructure package that includes Dell PowerEdge AI servers, Nvidia GPUs, high-speed networking, storage, and AI software. The new server leverages the Nvidia Vera Rubin NVL4 architecture, which integrates the Vera central processing unit, Rubin GPU, NVLink 6 switch, ConnectX-9 SuperNIC, BlueField-4 data processing unit, and Spectrum-6 Ethernet switch into a single rack-scale system. This unified design allows the server to operate as a cohesive AI supercomputer, supporting the full lifecycle of AI workloads.

Key performance improvements in the XE8812 include 50% more memory per socket and GPU memory compared to the previous generation based on Nvidia's Blackwell architecture. Dell says this memory boost enables organizations to run larger models and simulations entirely in-memory without the need for data staging or swapping, which introduces latency and reduces effective bandwidth. The server's liquid cooling system is essential for managing the thermal output of dense GPU configurations, and it includes an Integrated Dell Remote Access Controller (iDRAC) for remote management, as well as the Dell Integrated Rack Controller and OpenManage Enterprise for rack-level telemetry and automated leak detection.

The announcement comes as part of Nvidia's broader rollout of the Vera Rubin platform, which was unveiled in March 2026. Nvidia positioned Vera Rubin as a generational step forward in the convergence of AI and high-performance computing (HPC), targeting AI factory deployments and large-scale data centers. Super Micro's server will be at the core of its Data Center Building Block Solutions (DCBBS) Blueprint offering, which defines compute, networking, advanced liquid cooling, power distribution, and site definition recommendations for building AI infrastructure. The competition between Dell and Super Micro in the high-end AI server market underscores the intense demand for infrastructure capable of supporting the most demanding AI workloads.

According to a recent Gartner study cited by Dell, global AI investment is projected to grow 44% year-over-year in 2026, with 87% of organizations saying innovation and AI are key to their business strategy. Gartner also forecast a 49% increase in spending on AI-optimized servers for 2026, representing 17% of total AI spending. AI infrastructure is expected to add $401 billion in spending in 2026 as a result of technology providers building out AI foundations. These figures highlight the rapid expansion of the AI infrastructure market and the critical role that powerful servers like the PowerEdge XE8812 will play in enabling enterprise AI initiatives.

The PowerEdge XE8812 is designed to support not only traditional AI model training but also emerging workloads that combine AI with HPC simulation. Dell stated that as AI and HPC simulation workloads converge, the scale and pace of these workloads are outgrowing what incremental infrastructure upgrades can keep up with. The Vera Rubin NVL4 platform is built for this convergence, offering expanded host memory, more cores (expanding from 144 to 176), more GPU memory, and more compute, paired with Nvidia CUDA-X libraries for HPC organizations to run their largest models and simulations entirely in-memory with unparalleled processing power.

In addition to the hardware upgrades, the server benefits from Nvidia's evolving software ecosystem. The Dell AI Factory with Nvidia typically includes Nvidia's AI Enterprise software and NIM inference microservices, which simplify the deployment and management of AI models in production environments. The combination of Dell's hardware management tools, such as iDRAC and OpenManage Enterprise, with Nvidia's software stack provides enterprises with a comprehensive solution for building and operating AI infrastructure at scale.

The global push for AI innovation is accelerating demand for high-performance infrastructure that keeps data, compute, and control where organizations need it. Dell emphasized that the PowerEdge XE8812, with its liquid cooling and high-density GPU configuration, is suited for enterprises with major AI infrastructure plans that require maximum performance per rack. The server's ability to scale to 144 GPUs per rack means that organizations can consolidate AI compute into fewer racks, reducing data center footprint and power consumption while increasing throughput.

The Dell PowerEdge XE8812 is expected to be available later this year. Pricing has not been disclosed, but given the high-end components and liquid cooling infrastructure, the server will command a premium over previous-generation models. Dell aims to position the XE8812 as the go-to platform for enterprises that are building out AI factories—large-scale, purpose-built data centers dedicated to AI workloads. The server's integration with the Dell AI Factory with Nvidia package ensures that customers can deploy a fully integrated infrastructure without having to piece together components from multiple vendors.
