Report: iPhone Ultra to have incredibly limited availability at launch, may ship slightly later

Apple’s first foldable iPhone, widely expected to be called the iPhone Ultra, is generating significant buzz ahead of its reported announcement in September 2026. However, a new report from respected supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo suggests that the device will be extraordinarily difficult to obtain at launch. According to Kuo, Apple will only assemble 7–8 million foldable iPhones throughout the second half of 2026, with a meager 0.5–1 million units arriving in the third quarter—barely 10% of the total. For perspective, Kuo estimates that the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max will ship 20–22 million units in the same period. This stark contrast indicates that the iPhone Ultra will face severe supply constraints from day one.
